I’m sorry I didn’t comment about last weeks game, so I figured I’d give you a brief paragraph on the last couple of weeks.
First of all, we did struggle in the Redskins game, but then caught fire midway in the second quarter with that touchdown bomb to Devon Smith. We were unstoppable after that, and the Redskins came back down to reality.
Yesterday, against the Dolphins, you knew this was not going to be an easy game. I had a feeling that the game would be competitive for a half, and that the Cowboys would win going away in the second half, which is exactly what happened.
Yes, we’ve won our first three games for the first time since 2008. But think about the last three times of this has happened.
In 1999, we won our first three games. Then Michael Irvin’s career ended to the disgusting cheers of Eagles fans, and to make matters worse, Philly won the game in the final minute. That sent us into a downward spiral into oblivion.
We did start with 5 straight wins in 2007. But of course, some team that is known as “entitlement” stole the Super Bowl, thank you Patrick Creighton.
We won our first three games in 2008. But then, the chance to get us into the playoffs ended with the infamous “I Quit” game where the Eagles blew us out 44-6. I called for a massive overhaul of the entire football team and coaching staff after that game. Nothing happened, no redemption from the year before was achieved, and despite an accidental division title the next year, they finally blew it up in 2010, a year and a half too late.
Do we see a pattern here?
Don’t look now, but the teams that many Cowboys fans thought would be cupcakes during the season have suddenly become legitimate opponents. No opponent can be taken for granted in the NFL.
I thought Green Bay wasn’t going to be so good, now look where they are! The Saints might be better with Teddy Bridgewater than Drew Brees! I’m sure the Eagles will rebound at some point. Now that the Giants changed quarterbacks, they are certainly a threat again! And don’t look now, the Lions still haven’t lost yet and neither has Buffalo!
Could déjà vu be happening for the third end of decade in a row?
Just be careful. The next two weeks will be very difficult games. I picked the Saints to go to the Super Bowl this year, which they should’ve been there last year. And the Packers? They still talk about Aaron Rodgers, but now they’re talking about a very good defense.
So don’t think for one second that the Cowboys are going to have an easy cruise to a 2nd straight NFC East title. They may be two games up now, but there is a whole lot of football left to be played and that margin could be gone in a hurry if they are not careful.
